July 23, 2006:  Located in Clark Fork, Idaho

We decided not to take the full rest day in Sandpoint and rode the 24 miles to lovely Clark Fork, ID after sleeping in until 8:00am at our palatial motel room. Stopped halfway at the Ice House Pizzeria and Bakery in Hope (great cookies that we heard about on another biker's journal) and met a man who claimed we were the 48th people he'd seen this year riding the Northern Tier. He was a huge supporter of RAGBRAI, calling it the "Sturgis of bicycles" and "Mardi Gras on Wheels" every night and sounded as if he'd already had a few in its honor (at 9:00 am).

Stopped quickly at Sweet Bicycles on our way into Clark Fork and had a nice chat with the owners and read postcards from others who had passed this way earlier in the year. A young guy we'll call Bar Harbor Brent stopped in and was asking all about the Surly's. He was riding an unnamed custom touring bike but was disappointed because he didn't know Surly made touring bikes. The bike shop owner said they seemed to be the bike of choice this year, which we certainly agree with. The Oregon 3 stayed at our motel tonight, too, and we had lunch and played cards with them.

Later, we celebrated Stephanie's birthday with Hostess cupcakes. All in all a nice easy, relaxing day. Prius count was 3.

Total Prius Count:  28

Did You Know?  Some studies have shown as much as a five-fold increased risk in the development of intestinal cancer in people with IBD compared to the general population. Colonoscopies remain the best means for detecting early, curable cancer.
