August 12, 2006:  Rest Day in Fargo, North Dakota

Rest day in Fargo to take care of errands, laundry, and catch up on what's been going on in Sioux Falls with my parents. Jeff arrives tonight, just in time to load up on calories for tomorrow and to plan our ride. Of course, faithful dog Conrad promises to go along for some of the ride, too!

The folks here at the AmericInn have been so wonderful, providing us with not one, but two, free nights of lodging! The continental breakfast has been terrific and they also have free internet for us, so we've really enjoyed our stay.

In the afternoon, we met with Mary from Fargo and had a wonderful time. Unfortunately, Mary's mom developed Crohn's Disease in her sixties and passed away due to more surgical complications. One of her aunts also has Crohn's, so again we see the genetic connection. Mary is very interested in seeing that CCFA is able to have more of a presence here in Fargo, so note to Jim F: Let's follow up and talk to her about how we can do this. She's a fantastic, smart, energetic person and we need more volunteers just like her!

Our rest day wrapped up with dinner, a beer at Granite City, and a relaxing evening chatting with the family. Nice to have some conversations that don't entirely revolve around the ride.

Did You Know?  Some studies have shown as much as a five-fold increased risk in the development of intestinal cancer in people with IBD compared to the general population. Colonoscopies remain the best means for detecting early, curable cancer.
