August 13, 2006:  Located in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota

Today marked our 30th day on the road and we left Fargo for Pelican Rapids under threatening skies with little Conrad in tow and Jeff at the helm. Shortly after getting out of town, I took the lead only to have Conrad begin to whimper and bark. Apparently, he likes being the lead dog and didn't stop until I dropped back into my proper spot!

Of the 65 miles we rode today, about 40 of them were in a light rain to torrential downpour and I have to give my brother tons of credit for hanging in there for all 65. Would have been easy to jump into the support vehicle, but he chugged away and in the process set a new PR for bike mileage. Conrad easily made the first 20 miles, but then headed for the car since he doesn't have doggy raingear. Sounds like a business opportunity for someone.

We immediately sought shelter from the rain when we arrived in Pelican Rapids and found it in a nice little cafe, the Muddy Moose.  Shortly, the family took off and Laura and I continued to soak up heat (the high temp today was about 68) until the skies cleared and we could set up camp in the city park.

We have to effusively thank our family for driving up from SoDak to meet us and brighten the past two days; today's ride really passed quickly thanks to our riding companions.

Did You Know?  Some studies have shown as much as a five-fold increased risk in the development of intestinal cancer in people with IBD compared to the general population. Colonoscopies remain the best means for detecting early, curable cancer.
