August 23, 2006:  Located in Dyersville, Iowa

86 miles from Harpers Ferry to Dyersville. Temps in the mid 80's, high humidity and southerly winds made for a very difficult day. Oh, did I mention the hills? This section of Iowa is relentless! Two 1.5 mile 5-6% grade hills in the first 15 miles had us huffing and puffing...then the winds picked up.

Breakfasted in Marquette with some very friendly locals including a state trooper who recommended a couple traffic-avoiding alternate routes that worked nicely.

Today just dragged on and on, resulting in our arrival in Dyersville around 6:00pm. Lyle and Bernie drove up to take us to dinner and we had a very nice time with them and made plans to meet them tomorrow in Lowden, where they'll drive us back to Mt. Vernon for a rest day.

Anyone got the answer to yesterday's question yet?

Priuses = 0.

  Did You Know?  Some studies have shown as much as a five-fold increased risk in the development of intestinal cancer in people with IBD compared to the general population. Colonoscopies remain the best means for detecting early, curable cancer.
