August 27, 2006:  Located in Little Wenona, Illinois

95 miles from Orion to Wenona. Today began with heavy fog and a nice visit with some young kids and their grandmother who camped next to us. We'll send them a postcard from somewhere along the route, as they were very excited about our ride.

Had breakfast in Cambridge along with some more curious glances and questions from the local diners. Good coffee and pancakes always get the engines running. We really splurged for lunch at a Casey's convenience store: slice of ham pizza for me and an ice cream sandwich for the Badger.

We crossed the Illinois River at Henry under the threat of more rain that never materialized into more than a little spitting on us. Today was essentially neverending corn fields: Iowa without the hills. We had a strong NE wind mostly in our faces for the first 40 miles today and then it calmed down and we got soaked for the last 10 miles into Wenona (yes, it's actually spelled that way).

No camping options here so we hit a motel and tried things out, which worked for everything but the shoes. It was hard for me, since there was a pizza place next door, but we cooked mac and cheese plus canned chicken in our room and then had dessert from a gas station. We're obsessing about the weather again and they're forecasting more rain for the next couple days so it could get pretty ugly.

We're still trying to get ahead another day so we can get through Cleveland over Labor Day and not have to deal with Tuesday's rush hour traffic, but things aren't looking good.

Priuses today = 1.

Did You Know?  Some studies have shown as much as a five-fold increased risk in the development of intestinal cancer in people with IBD compared to the general population. Colonoscopies remain the best means for detecting early, curable cancer.
