68 miles from Monon to Wabash. We woke this morning to a big orange thing in the
sky. Turned out to be the sun! Literally hadn't seen it since the day before
Dyersville, over a week ago, and it's now rained on us every day since Saturday.
I guess we shouldn't have been wishing for a day where we didn't have to wear
sunscreen, eh?
At breakfast in Buffalo we met another couple from Oregon who are on our route
until just after Niagara Falls and will probably see them again in future days.
They'd ridden through SoDak and were near Pierre (she pronounced it wrong: it's
really only one syllable) when it hit 117 degrees this summer. Jake, they once
lived on their sailboat for 3 years, so maybe one day soon you'll be living the
dream!
Not to fear, the sun was not out long today and we road through mist and light
rain off an on until just outside of where we planned to camp when the heavier
stuff started to fall. Thus, we're now in Wabash at their very nice public
library and will be staying in a nice, dry motel room to try to dry out. This
rain is really dampening our spirits and there doesn't appear to be any end in
sight. Riding into Cleveland in the rain does not really appeal to us, so can
someone PLEASE do something about the weather? Oh, and did I mention that we got
NE winds again for the 4th straight day?
Finally, everyone drives like they're trying to qualify for the Indy 500 and
we'll be so happy to move on to Ohio in a few days.
