67 miles from Wabash to Monroeville. Weather forecast last night was for NW
winds and light showers so we woke up excited only to see the wind was out of
the NE at 10-20mph! Our goal today was the much-ballyhooed bike hostel of
Monroeville; in fact, we'd altered our schedule to make it here after Brent from
Bar Harbor told us about it way back in Clark Fork, ID.
As has been the story all across IL and IN, our morning began with light rain
that gradually picked up until we were pretty wet and depressed. We'd read that
the prevailing winds would be westerly in this part of the country, but we've
not had any and thus have struggled each and every day to stay on schedule. Had
a nice lunch (pizza for the 6th straight day for me) in Zanesville and then
pushed on to our destination where we were greeted by Warren, our bike hostel
host. After a brief tour of the facilities that include cots, a nice kitchen, a
bathroom with clean shower, and free laundry, we walked the town and are now in
their very nice, new library. Not sure what happened to the couple from Oregon,
but the young couple from San Diego that we've heard about (they're the ones
that had their gear stolen a couple hundred miles west of here) are only 2 days
ahead of us. T
omorrow we say goodbye to Indiana and all of its vicious dogs! We're almost out
of doggie mace so it's probably a good thing we're moving on. Looking forward to
a night of R&R, laundry, writing postcards, and oiling our chains. Tomorrow's
forecast is for NE winds (10-20mph) and 40% chance of showers so it'll be
another long, depressing one. We need good weather and maybe a tailwind to cheer
us up!
