September 1, 2006:  Located in Bowling Green, Ohio

92 miles from Monroeville, IN to Bowling Green, OH in, you guessed it, steady showers to start and then occasional rain throughout the day!  At least last night we slept on cots indoors at the bike hostel and even had the chance to do laundry, so all our stuff dried out at least temporarily. We had headwinds of 10-20 mph for about 40 miles to wrap up the day, pretty much from Defiance on.

In Napoleon, Laura stopped to take a photo of their cool courthouse and chatted with an older couple about the renovations it had undergone recently. Probably about 5 miles out of town, we noticed a minivan pull over and seem to wait for us and it turned out to be that same couple who had stopped to wish us luck on our journey.  It's small gestures such as this that really boost our spirits!

Since we had a hard, long day fighting winds it was decided that a motel would be our best option in Bowling Green and we found one right near Bowling Green State University. Headed to downtown after dinner to find a tavern that would at least serve a local beer. The dreadlocked guy at the food co-op recommended Cohen and Cooke's, which would have beer from Great Lakes Brewing in Cleveland. We both found the Burning River pale ale to our liking and were treated to some complimentary appetizers by the chef! Very cool restaurant, market, and lounge and the appetizers (one fancy shrimp and one crab salad on chips) were absolutely fantastic. We highly recommend the place to anyone who happens to pass through Bowling Green.

It was very hard to pass up the Waffle House we passed on our walk back to the motel, but we'll save it for tomorrow morning!
