September 6, 2006:  Located in Buffalo, New York

56 miles from Dunkirk to Buffalo. Nice weather to start the day: temps in low 60's, partly sunny and light winds again. No new info on Bucky at this point, he's still at large. Stopped at the first Tim Horton's that we ran across and had some very tasty donuts and our first dose of heavy NY accents from some friendly, curious dudes. Stopped at Graycliff, a Frank Lloyd Wright house outside Buffalo (under renovation!) and learned that Buffalo would soon be building two new FLW's, a boathouse and gas station.

Got to downtown Buffalo via a better route that we heard about from a guy in Lackawanna, then called Kathy for a ride to her house out in Williamsville. Kathy is the volunteer director of the Western NY chapter of CCFA and is doing great things for the cause. Her husband, Lar (short for Lawrence) stopped and picked up a growler of very nice, hoppy IPA on his way home from work and after finishing it off, we all drove to the Anchor Bar in their Prius! The Anchor Bar is where the Buffalo wing originated - don't worry, Steve M., we're bringing home some sauce for you, courtesy of Kathy! K

athy & Lar's son, Kyle, has Crohns but is managing nicely and will graduate from Yale in December. Kathy is also something of a genius when it comes to booking travel so we'll be flying home at a very fair price, thanks to her.

Did You Know?  Some studies have shown as much as a five-fold increased risk in the development of intestinal cancer in people with IBD compared to the general population. Colonoscopies remain the best means for detecting early, curable cancer.
