September 9, 2006:  Located in Sodus Point, New York

84 miles from Albion to Sodus Point. Ate a combo breakfast of some food in our room and the rest from Tim Horton's, which reminds me that I think T-Ho's is coming to Mpls sometime fairly soon.

Light rain was back today so we avoided the Erie Canal trail and made good time on the highway. This also enabled us to meet Tom from SC, who is finishing up his PhD and has a masters from the U of M and loved his time in Mpls. He's a touring machine, having left Portland, OR on Aug 17th and is averaging about 130 miles a day! Laura says he's an affable Katz-like character of Bill Bryson fame, but much more fit. Tom's crossed the country 5 times and has already ridden from Portland, OR to Allentown, PA this year prior to his current journey. And he's not touring light, either, as witnessed by the photo we finally remembered to take.

After saying goodbye to Tom, we rejoined the Erie Canal trail at Rochester (it's paved and it was raining) and met some nice folks in Pittsford who recommended going off route in order to save some miles. One was a brilliant inventor who helped with directions on our way out of town. Kinda looked like John McEnroe. Camping was courtesy of the South Shore RV Park on the shores of Lake Ontario and included hot showers and a grassy tent pad.

Walked to dinner in town and were bummed to walk back (1.5 miles) in a slight drizzle; seems like it rains every time we camp! Dinner was at Zoots on their last weekend of business for the year and we had one of their 40 kinds of burgers and some free ice cream, too.

Did You Know?  Some studies have shown as much as a five-fold increased risk in the development of intestinal cancer in people with IBD compared to the general population. Colonoscopies remain the best means for detecting early, curable cancer.
