September 10, 2006:  Located in Pulaski, New York

78 miles from Sodus Point to Pulaski. Giant pancakes from Zoots sent us on our way today under partly sunny skies and temps in the low 50's. We had planned to ride off route today to visit Chimney Bluffs State Park and were impressed by the starkness of its glacially-created drumlin-lined beach. Looks like the Badlands (see picture, coming soon).  The terrain today was pretty hilly, sorta like we experienced in NE Iowa, but without the fierce wind.

Temps hovered in the low 60's all day, so we stayed fairly bundled up most of the time. We're finally getting a chance to wear some of the cold weather gear we've been hauling since Mpls and there are frost warnings out for this area for the next few days! We had hoped to get another 15 miles in today, but had the foresight to call the motels (again, camping wasn't available) and were dismayed at their prices and excuses. One claimed they had 200 wedding guests last night and hadn't had a chance to make up any rooms yet and, thus, didn't have any "vacancy". The other was charging $100 plus tax and touting their air conditioning, of all things!

We learned it's the beginning of salmon season, so things are pretty full and apparently pretty put-off by it. Oh well, at least I got some quality NFL time in for the first time. Did I mention that the 5-time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers won the other night?

Did You Know?  Some studies have shown as much as a five-fold increased risk in the development of intestinal cancer in people with IBD compared to the general population. Colonoscopies remain the best means for detecting early, curable cancer.
