September 17, 2006:
Tour Wrap-Up |
|
After 64 days... 4,100 miles... and 181 Priuses, Tour de Guts rolled into
Portland, Maine, on a unseasonably warm and beautiful afternoon on Saturday,
September 17. We dipped our front wheels into the Atlantic around noon local
time, completing our cross-country cycling journey that started on the Pacific,
just north of Seattle, nearly two months ago. We toasted the end of our journey
with local brews in the Old Port area in Portland. Salut!
We want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support of our
ride! We received many emails along the way of inspiration and pats on the back.
We want to extend a very special thanks to our families, friends -- old and new!
-- our sponsors for providing us with many of the essentials, and to the folks
at CCFA MN/Dakotas chapter who helped get this ride rolling. We also want to
send our thanks for all the financial support for this ride. Your generous
contributions will help fund research to find a cure for these diseases.
There are too many memories to summarize here, but we hope you enjoyed reading
about many of them through our blog. And for you blog junkies, we bid our
farewell as we put on the street clothes and return to work a week from now. The
real world beckons us now.
THANK YOU!
Sam & Laura Kirstein

Did You Know? Some studies have shown as much as a five-fold increased risk in the
development of intestinal cancer in people with IBD compared to the
general population. Colonoscopies remain the best means for detecting
early, curable cancer. |
